SUMMARY:Yiwen Pan (Sun Yat-sen University)
DESCRIPTION:Slides: Schur correlation functions and DQ\nVideo: Bilibli   Youtube\n\nZoom seminar: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/9383671691\nTime: 4pm(Japan/Korea)\, 3pm(China)\, 12:30pm(India)\, 10am(Israel/Moscow)\, 9am(Berlin/Paris)\n\n  \nTitle: Schur correlation functions and deformation quantization \n\n\nAbstract: 4d N=2 and 3d N=4 SCFTs are found be to respectively associated to\, as protected subsectors of their algebras of local operators\, 2d vertex operator algebras and 1d topological algebras. In the first half of the talk\, we will compute Schur correlation functions on S3xS1 by the localization technique\, where the well-known localization argument needs to be generalized. In the second half\, we propose a way to extract a 1d topological algebra from the torus correlation functions of an associated VOA χ[T4d]. In favorable situations\, the extracted algebra coincides with the deformation quantization of the Higgs branch of vacua of the circle-reduction of T4d\, or otherwise a deformation quantization at a different value of its period.

DESCRIPTION:Theory Seminar \nTitle: Modularity of 3-manifold invariants \nAbstract:\nSince the 1980s\, the study of invariants of 3-dimensional manifolds has\nbenefited from the connections between topology\, physics and number\ntheory. Recently\, a new topological invariant has been discovered: the\nhomological block (also known as the half-index of certain 3d N=2\ntheories). When the 3-manifold is a Seifert manifold given by a\nnegative-definite plumbing the homological block turned out to be\nrelated to false theta functions and characters of logarithmic VOA’s. In\nthis talk I describe the role of quantum modular forms\, false and mock\ntheta functions in the study of the topology of 3-manifolds. The talk is\nbased on the article 1809.10148 and work in progress with Cheng\, Chun\,\nFeigin\, Gukov\, and Harrison.

DESCRIPTION:Theory Seminar \nTitle: \nMulti-loop scattering amplitude computation in QCD via Algebraic geometry \n  \nAbstract: \nWe apply modern computational algebraic geometry techniques\, for the calculation of multi-loop scattering amplitudes of the LHC. Algebraic geometry methods can identify the so-called canonical Feynamn integral basis\, and pick up relevant integral linear relations for complicated loop computations. We demonstrate the power of our method by the fully analytic two-loop non-planar five-gluon pure-Yang-Mills amplitude computation

SUMMARY:Theory Special Seminar: HongGuang Liu (Pengcheng)
DESCRIPTION:title ： Effective Dynamics from Coherent State Path Integral of Full Loop Quantum Gravity \nabstract:   \nA hot topic of research in Loop Quantum Gravity (LQG) is how to derive effective equations of motion (EOMs) from the theory. In this talk a new routine is proposed to derive the effective dynamics from LQG. Our results are obtained in the framework of the reduced phase space quantization of LQG. As a key step in our work\, we derive with coherent states a new discrete path integral formula of the transition amplitude generated by the physical Hamiltonian. The semiclassical approximation of the path integral formula gives an interesting set of effective EOMs for full LQG. When solving the EOMs with homogeneous and isotropic ansatz\, we reproduce the Loop Quantum Cosmology (LQC) effective dynamics in mu-0 scheme. The solution replaces the big-bang singularity by a big bounce. The technique is naturally related to numerical relativity since it provides a set of dynamical evolution equations with natural discretization by LQG.  The idea may also be applicable in other theories of interests like topological field theories.

SUMMARY:Satoshi Yamaguchi\, Osaka
DESCRIPTION:Title: \n’t Hooft anomaly matching condition and chiral symmetry breaking without fermion bilinear condensate \nAbstract: \nWe explore 4-dimensional SU(N) gauge theory with a Weyl fermion in an irreducible self-conjugate representation. This theory\, in general\, has a discrete chiral symmetry. We use ‘t Hooft anomaly matching condition of the center symmetry and the chiral symmetry\, and find constraints on spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking in the confining phase. We consider the SU(6) gauge theory with a Weyl fermion in the rank 3 anti-symmetric representation as an example. It is argued that this theory is likely to be in the confining phase. The chiral symmetry Z_6 must be spontaneously broken to Z_2 under the assumption of the confinement\, although there cannot be any fermion bilinear condensate in this theory.

DESCRIPTION:Theory Seminar \ntitle: Monster Anatomy \nabstract:  Mckay and Thompson’s remarkable observation between the Monster group M and the modular objects\, especially\, the j-invariant\, has motivated the study of the so-called `Monstrous Moonshine’. In this talk\, we generalize the moonshine phenomena with different sporadic groups such as the baby Monster\, Fischer\, and Thompson groups and so on. More precisely\, we discuss rational conformal field theories where conformal characters exhibit the moonshine for sporadic groups other than the Monster group. To search for such rational conformal field theories\, we utilize a holomorphic bilinear relation proposed by Mukhi et al.

SUMMARY:Huaxing ZHU
DESCRIPTION:Theory Seminar \nTitle: The Energy Correlators and QCD on the Celestial Sphere \nAbstract: Solving Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) analytically is notoriously difficult. Not only because QCD becomes strongly interacting at long distance\, but even at short distance where the theory is weakly coupled\, first principle analytic calculation is still difficult due to factorial growth of Feynman diagrams. In this talk I will introduce a set of QCD observables called energy correlators\, which significantly simplifies the analytical calculation\, and leads to better understanding of QCD at large perturbative order. The n-point energy correlators measure the energy deposited in n detectors as a function of the angles between the detectors. Since the detectors can be idealized as sitting at the two sphere at infinity\, the co-called celestial sphere\, it is suspected that there exists an 2D effective theory of QCD on the celestial sphere\, which describe the same physics of the 4D QCD. I will give some preliminary evidences that support this conjecture. I will also mention the experimental perspective on precision measurement of the energy correlators at the Large Hadron Collider.

SUMMARY:Chang-Tse Hsieh\, IPMU
DESCRIPTION:Theory seminar \nTitle: On the anomaly of the electromagnetic duality of the Maxwell theory \nAbstract: Every physicist knows that the electromagnetic field is described classically by the Maxwell equation\, and that it is invariant under the electromagnetic duality S: (E\, B) → (B\, −E). The properties of the electromagnetic duality in the quantum theory\, represented by an SL(2\, Z) group acting on the lattice Z^2 of the electric and magnetic charges\, might not be as well known to physicists in general\, and in fact are not very well understood in the literature. This is particularly true when going around a nontrivial path in the spacetime results in a duality transformation. In this work\, we uncover a feature of the Maxwell theory and its duality symmetry in such a situation\, namely that it has a quantum anomaly. We find that the anomaly of this system in a particular formulation is 56 times that of a Weyl fermion [1]. The interpretation of this result is twofold: one is by using the bulk SPT phase in 4+1 dimensions characterizing the anomaly\, and the other is by considering the properties of some 5+1 dimensional superconformal field theory\, known as the E-string theory. Our result reproduces\, as a special case\, the known anomaly of the all-fermion electrodynamics [2\, 3]—a version of the Maxwell theory where all particles of odd charge are fermions—discovered in the last few years. \nRefs:\n[1] C.-T.
