SUMMARY:Yuya Tanizaki (Kyoto University)
DESCRIPTION:Topological aspects of oblique confinement in the Cardy-Rabinovici mode\n\n\nYuya Tanizaki (Kyoto University)\n\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/9383671691\n\n\n\nAbstract: Confinement is one of the most important but basic features of non-Abelian gauge theories\, and an intuitive and interesting scenario of its dynamics is condensation of magnetic monopoles. When we add the topological theta term to it\, more exotic condensations may appear\, which are called oblique confinement phases. In a 4d lattice model proposed by Cardy and Rabinovici\, such interesting phases can be explicitly realized. In this talk\, I will uncover its topological nature based on the recent applications of ‘t Hooft anomaly matching. Moreover\, it has been known that the local dynamics of Cardy-Rabinovici model shows the SL(2\,Z) self-duality\, but it turns out that the self-duality does not extend to the global aspect of the original theory. We cooked up a SL(2\,Z) self-dual theory by gauging a part of the 1-form symmetry of the Cardy-Rabinovici model\, and the self-duality has a mixed gravitational anomaly. These data give useful constraints to discuss the phase diagram.

The central charges and the levels of current algebras of 2d CFTs on these strings can be calculated by anomaly inflow mechanism and used to provide constraints on the supergravity theories based on unitarity of the worldsheet CFT. I will show some of the theories with 8 or 16 supersymmetries\, which are otherwise consistent looking\, belong to the Swampland.

Since they are strongly coupled\, it is hard to compute the partition function of AD CFTs and their cousins via the supersymmetric localization. In this talk\, I will discuss computing the partition function of gauge theories involving Argyres-Douglas CFTs in their matter sector\, using the generalized AGT correspondence as a tool. Our result is particularly consistent with the S-duality when the gauging is exactly marginal.

In the context of massive quantum field theories\, I will derive high energy bounds on relative entropy as well as study the Regge behaviour. One application of such line of questioning will be a general explanation why the curvature of the Regge trajectory in massive quantum field theories must be positive. Then I will turn to the S-matrix bootstrap. I will give a broad overview of what this program is about and how to constrain pion scattering with it. Here\, some insight from relative entropy will prove to be handy to constrain the space of S-matrices. Finally I will discuss how hypothesis testing using relative entropy can prove useful to distinguish S-matrices in the space of allowed S-matrices.

For a given low-energy gauge theory realised via a Type II brane construction\, there exist magnetic quivers for the Higgs branches at finite and infinite gauge coupling.\nComparing these moduli spaces allows to study the non-perturbative effects when transitioning to the fixed point.  For 5d N=1 SQCD\, 5-brane webs have been an important tool for deriving magnetic quivers.  In this talk\, the emphasis is placed on 5-brane webs with orientifold 5-planes which give rise to 5d  theories with orthogonal or symplectic gauge groups.  For this set-up\, I will exemplify the magnetic quiver prescription and contrast it against a unitary magnetic quiver description extracted from an O7 construction.  An important class of families considered are the orthogonal exceptional families\, realised as infinite coupling Higgs branches of Sp(k) gauge theories with fundamental matter.  For both classes of magnetic quivers\, I will discuss the associated Hasse diagrams for selected examples. Their agreement further validates the approach taken.

In particular\, we show that turning on a constant background value for some scalar fields in the closed string twisted sectors induces a non-trivial profile for the gauge field and one of the complex scalars of the world-volume theory\, and that this profile exactly matches the singular behavior that one expects for a Gukov-Witten surface defect in the N=4 supersymmetric gauge theory.

In particular\, the problem of quantizing the Hitchin integrable system is related to the problem of holomorphic symplectic geometry of the moduli space of flat connections on Riemann surfaces and its Lagrangian subvarieties. In this talk\, I will present how the N=2 gauge theories with half-BPS surface defects provide a physical understanding of such a duality. Also if time permits\, I will discuss another version of quantum/classical duality related to isomonodromic deformations of Fuchsian systems\, which could be understood in a similar field theoretical setting.

SUMMARY:Alex Belin (CERN)
DESCRIPTION:Video: Youtube  Bilibili \nTitle: Gravitational path integral from the T2 deformation \nAbstract: We study a T2 deformation of large N conformal field theories\, a higher dimensional generalization of the TT¯ deformation. The deformed partition function satisfies a flow equation of the diffusion type. We solve this equation by finding its diffusion kernel\, which is given by the Euclidean gravitational path integral in d+1 dimensions between two boundaries with Dirichlet boundary conditions for the metric. This is natural given the connection between the flow equation and the Wheeler-DeWitt equation\, on which we offer a new perspective by giving a gauge-invariant relation between the deformed partition function and the radial WDW wave function. An interesting output of the flow equation is the gravitational path integral measure which is consistent with a constrained phase space quantization. Finally\, we comment on the relation between the radial wave function and the Hartle-Hawking wave functions dual to states in the CFT\, and propose a way of obtaining the volume of the maximal slice from the T2 deformation.

The geometric construction of the 4d theories predicts numerous interesting strong coupling effects\, such as IR symmetry enhancements and duality. We will discuss this interplay between simple geometric and group theoretic considerations and complicated field theoretic strong coupling phenomena. For example\, one of the dualities arising geometrically from different pair-of-pants decompositions of a four punctured sphere is an $SU(N+2)$ generalization of the Intriligator-Pouliot duality of $SU(2)$ SQCD with $N_f=4$\, which is a degenerate\, $N=0$\, instance of our discussion.

Because of the diffeomorphism symmetries\, we need to consider diffeomorphism invariant operators and gravitational dressing. In this work\, we try to use Peierls bracket to study the commutator between the gravitational dressing operator and the ADM energy operator. Our result also strengthens the Marolf-Polchinski firewall argument. \nIn the talk\, I will first briefly review the Peierls bracket\, which is a linear response interpretation of bracket computation in covariant phase space formalism. We also illustrate the Peierls bracket with several examples. After that\, we use Peierls bracket to study the Hamiltonian flow of the gravitational dressing operator\, from which we can read out the commutator between the gravitational dressing operator with ADM energy operator.

The deformation parameters are interpreted as the masses and the gauge coupling constants of the gauge theory. However\, from the viewpoint of the SCFT\, it is natural to extend the parameter region to the place where the original gauge theory description is not valid anymore. For example\, we can consider the parameter region where the square of the gauge coupling constant becomes negative. If we choose such parameter region\, the theory may flow to a different gauge theory or may flows to a non-Lagrangian theory at the infrared.\nWe propose the “complete” prepotential for 5d N=1 SCFT\, which is valid for the whole parameter region. The complete prepotential is constructed in such a way that it respects the global symmetry of the SCFT and that it reduces to the perturbative prepotential found by Intriligator\, Morrison and Seiberg in the parameter region where the gauge theory description is valid. The (p\,q) 5-brane web diagram plays an important role to understand the complete prepotential.

In particular\, I will explain the two different approaches to obtain 6d Cardy formulas: the elliptic genus of self-dual strings and the ‘t Hooft anomalies.\n

DESCRIPTION:Slides: Schur correlation functions and DQ\nVideo: Bilibli   Youtube\n\nZoom seminar: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/9383671691\nTime: 4pm(Japan/Korea)\, 3pm(China)\, 12:30pm(India)\, 10am(Israel/Moscow)\, 9am(Berlin/Paris)\n\n  \nTitle: Schur correlation functions and deformation quantization \n\n\nAbstract: 4d N=2 and 3d N=4 SCFTs are found be to respectively associated to\, as protected subsectors of their algebras of local operators\, 2d vertex operator algebras and 1d topological algebras. In the first half of the talk\, we will compute Schur correlation functions on S3xS1 by the localization technique\, where the well-known localization argument needs to be generalized. In the second half\, we propose a way to extract a 1d topological algebra from the torus correlation functions of an associated VOA χ[T4d]. In favorable situations\, the extracted algebra coincides with the deformation quantization of the Higgs branch of vacua of the circle-reduction of T4d\, or otherwise a deformation quantization at a different value of its period.

SUMMARY:Francesca Ferrari\, SISSA
DESCRIPTION:Theory Seminar \nTitle: Modularity of 3-manifold invariants \nAbstract:\nSince the 1980s\, the study of invariants of 3-dimensional manifolds has\nbenefited from the connections between topology\, physics and number\ntheory. Recently\, a new topological invariant has been discovered: the\nhomological block (also known as the half-index of certain 3d N=2\ntheories). When the 3-manifold is a Seifert manifold given by a\nnegative-definite plumbing the homological block turned out to be\nrelated to false theta functions and characters of logarithmic VOA’s. In\nthis talk I describe the role of quantum modular forms\, false and mock\ntheta functions in the study of the topology of 3-manifolds. The talk is\nbased on the article 1809.10148 and work in progress with Cheng\, Chun\,\nFeigin\, Gukov\, and Harrison.
